Catching up with Salisbury freshman Taylor Jenny Tell us about yourself Taylor. Currently I am a freshman at SHS and I’m playing football along with softball and basketball in the upcoming seasons. I do a little bit of everything along with sports such as art, video games, and skateboarding. What made you decide to play football in the MS and continue playing it in HS? I’ve always done sports and other activities and I got to the point where I realized I didn’t have anything to do in the fall, I’m not really a soccer person and my Mom didn’t want to let me play field hockey so I decided to challenge her and say I wanted to play football. I have always taken an interest in football because I grew up watching it with my Dad and been around it all my life, at times it almost felt “off limits” because it’s a male dominated sport but I have never let those kinds of things stop me. How are you enjoying the season? I’m enjoying it a lot, it was a little tough adjusting to the new high school level and covid rules but I have gotten used to it and everyone is making the best out of it. What is the most difficult aspect of playing football? Just like any other sport you have to be strong in not only body but also mind, with football you have to memorize the plays and what you need to do and for multiple positions sometimes. Of course the physical aspect is tough too, maybe extra tough, genetically men and women are built differently and our bodies work differently so playing a male dominated sport can be tough. Would you like to see other girls playing football? YES, I would love to see other girls doing what they love and trying out new things without feeling like they can’t just because of their gender. What advice would you offer a girl who was thinking about playing football? The only way you are going to find out what you love is by trying all kinds of different things, so go for it! I’m going to be honest, it’s not going to be easy but nothing worth doing ever is, so don’t let any “gender rules” hold you back and the true people in your life will support you and help you out through any tough situations. What is your favorite academic subject? I’m taking LCTI but I’m not sure if that counts as an academic subject so my favorite would have to be English. What have you learned about dealing with COVID in 2020? Things are not the same as they used to be but It’s best to take these precautions for our safety, I absolutely hate the fact that we have to wear masks and social distance because it just feels wrong. But in the end it’s not my decision and I would rather be able to continue on with life with a few minor safety precautions then be stuck inside, alone and bored all day long. If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would you choose and why? If I had the opportunity to meet anyone I would want to meet either Johnny Depp or Colson Baker (MGK). Johnny Depp has played in multiple awesome movies and the characters he plays have always caught my attention. They are always very whimsical and fluid which I think is awesome that we can connect to ourselves and the characters like that. I would want to meet Colson Baker because I love his music and I’ve been kind of obsessed with him lately. Who is your role model and why? This is quite different from my last answer but I think Emma Watson is an amazing person and good to look up to. She is an awesome actor and she is beautiful plus she has worked hard for equal rights. She is even a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN which I didn’t even really think was a thing until I had to think about this question and I did a little research. #yoursalisbury
